Whose Orbit Are You In? #391
Last week I asked you one question: 'Who's in your orbit?' My intention wasn't for you to change your relationships altogether, just to become aware of them. Listen, I know it’s hard to separate yourself from those who are pulling you in directions that you know are not meant for you. But you must. I also know that you can elevate beyond your biggest dreams with the right people in your orbit. The good news is that you can choose who’s in your orbit.
This week, however, I’d like to ask a different question. That is, “Whose orbit are you in?” Not whose orbit you think you’re in, but whose orbit are you actually in? I believe there’s a difference between what you want to think and what’s really happening.
Scripture has a way of challenging us to move our focus from ourselves to others. The Apostle Paul said in Philippians 2:3-4: "Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others."
We can spend a lot of time thinking about becoming better ourselves, and that’s okay. We should all desire to grow in our faith, our leadership, and our character. But there comes a point when our personal growth is no longer just about us. It's about allowing our growth to become someone else's blessing.
That's what it means to be in someone's orbit. You begin caring about their growth and well-being as much as your own. There will be those moments when you suddenly get a gut feeling that something isn't right. I don't believe those moments are accidental. I believe that many times it’s the Holy Spirit prompting you to reach out. Then, without them knowing it, when you make the call, send that text, or stop by to see them, you're living out Galatians 6:2 by helping carry their burden.
You'll know you're in someone's orbit because they'll seek your opinion before making a difficult decision. Your words carry weight because they trust your heart. They trust that you won't stop them from trying, but you'll always be there to offer a hand if they fall.
So before today ends, ask yourself one question. Whose life is better because I'm in their orbit?
That’s a real and serious question, and if a name immediately comes to mind, then thank God for the opportunity He's given you to invest in that person's life. Keep investing.
However, if no one comes to mind, then ask God to reveal someone in your path this week who needs you in their orbit. You may discover He's already preparing you to step into their orbit.
