Who Will You Follow? #337
On June 14th people protested I.C.E., others declared “No Kings Day,” and at the same time the American flag was burned on Flag Day. Have we forgotten that we live in the greatest county on earth because millions of people have given their lives over the last 250 years for the freedom we enjoy today?
Our founding fathers in the 1760’s humbled themselves before God seeking His direction for the colonies. They obeyed the Lord and eventually revolted against King George III. The citizens eagerly followed because they too desired to follow God’s will like their leaders. Today, however, the principalities organizing these protests are leading us away from God and it saddens me to think that people are following like sheep.
Since the beginning, people have wrestled with the question of who should I follow? Some chose to trust Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon or Hitler in Germany, but both leaders led their followers astray resulting in lost lives and nations that were either destroyed or damaged. However, King David and later, King Solomon followed God and led their people to prosperity. There were no “Death to Israel” graffitti on their walls. There are those leaders who follow God and those that don’t, it’s up to us to follow the right king.
I think the gospels of Matthew and Luke sum it up best, “For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also.” This treasure is who we follow, what we pay attention to or who we give our hearts to. This decision is forced on us everyday by all the “kings” demanding our attention. It’s like we are at a decision intersection trying to decide which way to go. Turn left and follow the world’s demands or turn right and follow God’s plan for our lives? I desire to follow God’s arrows but unfortunately there are times when the world tries to pull me back in their direction. We must stay strong and continue walking the path towards God and not look back so we don’t go back.
In conclusion, God may be asking you and I to move toward the giant standing in front of you or the protester trying to block you from following your calling. It’s time to choose. Ask yourself, “Am I going to move through the resistance like David when he walked through the crowd on his way to Goliath? Or am I going to stay seated in fear like the other soldiers did?” Move toward the giant and trust that God will give you the courage like He gave David and believe in God like David did before he picked up his first stone. So let me ask you again, who’s your king and where are you going?
