A “While Alive” Legacy #322

When I mention the word legacy, I hear things like, “You mean the trendy word on commercials. Or, I’ve got plenty of time to think about that; it only matters when you’re old or dead.” I also find that some people believe they don’t deserve leaving a legacy because they’ve made too many mistakes. None of this is true because people can change their “after death” legacy mentality to a “while alive” legacy mindset with a simple change of heart if they want to. That’s the whole point of living your legacy now so you don’t have to worry if you’ve said enough or done enough later. You’ll do it now.

Another misconception about legacy is that it’s determined by the number of zeroes in a life insurance policy. I’m not against life insurance, it’s important; however, if all your wife thinks about after your funeral is having the house paid off instead of wishing she had more time with you, then that’s a problem. Consequently, if your kids stress about taking care of mom or mowing your yard instead of missing your presence, love and guidance, then that’s an issue too. By starting to live your best legacy now you will change your focus to what matters most before it’s too late.

So stop putting limits on yourself that God never did. Stop believing the lies you’ve told yourself, that He never said. And stop being alone when He’s created you to be with others. He given you a second chance, so embrace the opportunity to live the ultimate legacy today.

Here are a few things you can do:

  1. When you wake up, say, “Thank you.” Not a paragraph of gratitude, just two words will remind you of our creator and that today’s a gift so make the most of it.

  2. After brushing your teeth, look in the mirror and tell the person looking back that, “I am good enough.” This will change your physical and spiritual posture before leaving the bathroom.

  3. When tying your shoes, whisper, “I can.” This let’s you know that you’re laced up and ready to run the race before you.

  4. While starting your car, say, “Let’s go.” This will motivate and inspire you to be your best before you get there.

  5. At your destination, say, “I’m not alone. God’s with me and for me.” When God’s Holy Spirit is guiding your steps and He’s by your side, then there’s nothing that the two of you cannot accomplish together.

Try this simple approach for one week and I guarantee you that you’ll feel differently and have more confidence because you now have a mission or a purpose. You’ll begin to see yourself as a child of God that He loves. You’re here for a reason because you’re more than enough and you’re best legacy is ahead of you. Now go live it!
