Regret The Rut Or... #344

Transformation is a buzzword in leadership marketing circles, but at its core, transformation is the story of the gospel. When you confess and believe that Jesus is Lord, that He died on the cross for the forgiveness of your sins, and that God raised Him from the dead, you are leaving the old you behind and walking into a new life.

I’d like to break down the concept of transformation by showing you how you can use regrets to transform your life. Jesse Itzler said that there are 3 types of regrets: Regrets you can’t change, Regrets you can fix, and Regrets you can prevent. This resonated with me because I’ve had many regrets, and I fear future ones too. So let’s break each one down, and at the end, I’ll give you 3 ways to subdue possible regrets before you have them.

For example, the first regret that I can’t change is to go back to middle school and date my crush. Just like I can’t go back and drive slower around the corner and prevent my first wreck when I was 16. But I learned from both.

The regrets you can fix may be in front of you, and by avoiding them, you’re increasing the magnitude of your pain. There might be a relationship that needs mending, but because you believe it’s their fault, you refuse to reconnect. By not fixing this regret with an “I’m sorry,” you will one day look back and realize what you’ve missed. So instead, forge the bond of the broken relationship so you both can enjoy a better future together.

You can also prevent regrets before they happen. For example, I recently attended a conference and I only knew three people out of 50. I was out of my element at this conference and didn’t have anything to offer; however, I prevented listening to the voice of regret by introducing myself to people who were sitting alone.

One gentleman was from England. Now I had no idea that he was a keynote speaker who gave an amazing talk, but before he left thanked me for approaching him. Unfortunately, there were several I didn’t meet, but I didn’t have any regret on the way home. I had a signed book and a new connection from a very successful man who wanted to help me because I spoke to him. All because I prevented a regret before it happened.

So here are some tips for you to leave the rut of regret before it gets too deep. One, take action towards your dreams even if it means writing down a plan. Then follow it regardless of how nervous you are at first. God’s given you the dream that won’t go away and He’s calling you to move on it. How long will you ignore Him. Two, seek guidance or accept coaching from someone who’s done it before or who’s at where you want to go. Again, this will mean leaving your comfort zone but it will be worth it. Three, give it to the Lord, trust Him with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. Acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths. (Prov. 3:5-6) Think about it. God had a plan and took action, so why can’t you.

If you truly want transformation so one day you can look back and forget the regret then you’ll have to start living the best version of your ideal legacy right now. When you follow these steps you’ll forget the rut that you used to live in. So start today.
