Pour In & Pass On #401
I’m sure we can think of people who passed on advice, information, instructions, or opinions without us asking. Isn’t it ironic that you can’t remember what they passed on? Today isn’t about them. Today is about the people who truly saw you, listened to you, and believed in you without judgment. They lifted you up in the tough times. They loved you for who you are, who you’re becoming, and not what you did. These people extended grace your way and poured encouragement and motivation into you. Because they earned the right, they also knew when a “kick in the pants” was needed.
As that person comes to your mind, thank God for them, right now. Pray a blessing over their life, and while you’re at it, reach out and thank them for helping shape you into the person you are today.
You know that a conversation can pick back up immediately with someone who has truly invested in your life because you know they truly care more about you than fixing you or pushing their agenda. So your relationship with that person will always matter, no matter the time or distance.
Jesus himself walked with, ate with, answered questions, corrected, and even taught His disciples to share His message with others. He valued each disciple individually, modeled what to do, and taught them before sending them out. Jesus may have started by pouring deeply into a small group, but He knew that for God’s truth to multiply, He had to deliberately invest in their lives first.
Paul proved the value of relationships and the importance of multiplication in 2 Timothy 2:2: “and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.” Paul wasn’t just teaching or passing information on. He poured into Timothy and the churches because he believed the gospel truth needed to continue beyond him. He couldn't keep it to himself. What God had poured into him needed to be poured into others so they could pass it on again.
Unfortunately, we are reminded every day that the world is constantly pouring messages into the people around us, trying to influence what they believe and how they live. So if you are not pouring into the people around you, then you can’t honestly be surprised when the world tries to fill the void they’re desperately trying to fill. There’s an urgency to extend grace, make time, build relationships, and intentionally invest in someone else before it’s too late.
Every day your legacy continues in a positive or negative way. But a legacy isn't meant to make your name last. It’s to make your life count by investing what God has given you into someone else. It starts by asking yourself an honest question: “Who is one person God is asking me to invest and pour into so that what God is doing in me doesn’t stop with me?” Remember, someone poured into you, and what they passed on stayed with you because they invested in you first.
Now it’s your turn to pour what God has poured into you into someone else so they know Him, follow Him, and eventually pour into someone else just like you did for them. At the end of the day, your legacy was never meant to stop with you. What God has poured into you was meant to be poured into someone else.
