Live Empty #326

Recently, our three-year-old grandson spilled his drink on the floor. He cried like it was the end of the world, but I grabbed the cup and said, “It’s OK, son, grandpa will get you more water. It must have been a miracle because after one drink, he returned to playing.

I don’t tell you this to recant the mishaps of grandchildren, but rather to remind you that each one of us pours drink offerings every day by the attitude we present, the effort you give, and the love you show to others. You may not use the term drink offering, but you’re doing it in everything you do and every relationship you have every single day. You’re always making an offering.

The priests or rabbis in the Old Testament didn’t hold back when they would pour out drink offerings for the forgiveness of sins. They would empty the entire cup, not withholding or saving some for the next group, because they believed that God and the people deserved the entire cup. It meant something to the rabbis and priests but also gave the people a sense of relief that they were completely forgiven.

Later, Jesus Christ poured out all of His drink offering when He gave His life for you. Shouldn’t we do the same for Him and others as well by pouring out all we have to? By emptying your proverbial cup or drink offering in everything you do, then you can rest assured that God will always refill your cup. He’s created you for a purpose: to love Him, to serve others, and He’ll make sure it’s always filled with His living water.

However, if you continue to hold back your best from others, they’ll never see you as you’re meant to be seen, known, and admired. People will eventually think of you as uncommitted or half-full because that’s all you ever gave them. And you know what they say about a half-full legacy? They don’t say anything because they can’t remember it. It’s time to take control of your glass and be memorable while you still can.

So today, ask yourself, what’s your drink offering, and how can you pour it out? Maybe it’s an act of kindness, a phone call, a note, or an anonymous gift, but whatever it is, make sure not to hold anything back. Remember to live empty, and they’ll never forget you.
