Grateful - Go - God #387

Every week, I ask God to reveal a theme for Friday Focus, and as I thought about this week, three words kept coming to my mind. Grateful. Go. God. I thought there was no way I could combine these words into a single email that would inspire at least one reader. However, the more I sat with these words, it hit me. And it’s hitting me now as I try to type while crying, but here it goes.

Maybe I’m the reader. In a few short weeks, I will close a chapter of my life and begin another. I can’t help but remember the blessings of the last twenty-five years. The opportunities God gave me, the things I let go of, and the ventures I had to take. I don’t know what is in store for me as I walk through the door for the last time. All I know is that He is asking me to trust Him because there are pages yet to be written, lives yet to be impacted, stories yet to be heard, and paths yet to be walked. I know that you’ve felt the same way, too, and understand that it’s a difficult door to walk through, but the door’s open.

Three hundred and eighty-six Friday Focuses have never been about me but about you. Today, we’re going to take the next step(s) together, starting with being grateful.

I think most of us always want to be moving forward, and that’s okay. But sometimes, we ought to look back and remember all of the good times of where we’ve been. Cherish the relationships that were formed. Remember the unrepeatable moments of joy that we would have never experienced if we were somewhere else. God planted those moments for you to help you remember that He’s always been with you along the way. So be grateful for the hurdles you’ve overcome, the obstacles you’ve avoided, and the mountains you’ve climbed just to get where you are now. And before you walk out, thank God for the blessings you’ve had. And yes, there will be tears, so let them flow.

The next step may be one of the hardest, at least it is for me, and that is letting go. Sometimes God is asking you to release what you’re not meant to carry any longer. I know there are fears about tomorrow’s unknown, but you can’t face those fears by letting go today. You cannot take action on what you’re destined to do next if you’re afraid of leaving or won’t take the step until you know the outcome. That’s a leash we were never meant to be chained to, so unhook yourself and take a step.

I know it’s a popular phrase, “Let God,” but it’s still hard to apply. So the next time you’re about to move and refuse, just think of Abram before he left family and everything he knew to follow God’s call. Maybe today’s the day you stop just reading motivational stories or listening to motivational music and actually step out of the boat like Peter or head into the wilderness like Abram. Sure, you won’t know every turn of the new path, but it’s time to trust God with the outcome. All that He asks in return is that you move towards it instead of staying still. You see, we cannot truly trust God with the outcome if we cling to the armrests of our chair and refuse to get up. I don’t know what your next step is, but I do know you have to take it.

So as you walk through the next door, be grateful for His presence in your past, go where He’s calling you to go today, and trust God with tomorrow. Grateful. Go. God. Those three words can change your direction and your legacy.
