Gotta Love The Christmas Lights #363

If you’d like to hear this message instead of reading it, tune in to the Living Your Legacy Podcast.

I bet you’ve never driven through neighborhoods just to look at Christmas lights. Or quietly judged which neighbor did it best. I’m sure you’ve never piled your kids or grandkids into the car to drive through light displays in other towns. And there’s no way you’ve ever sat for thirty minutes on YouTube watching houses synchronized to music. No… not you.

I happen to love Christmas lights. There’s just something about them that warms my heart and soothes my soul. There’s something special about seeing them that brightens my moment.

The other night, on my way home, my eyes were drawn more to the lights than to the road (thankfully, there wasn’t much traffic). But isn’t that how it should be anyway? Even in the darkness, our attention is supposed to be drawn toward the light.

But as much as those lights made me smile, a little sadness crept in, too. Because soon those lights will come down. The decorations will be put away. And we’ll be back to ordinary streetlights and headlights guiding our way. When I got home, I couldn’t help but think, Why can’t we have light displays like this all year long? Wouldn’t people feel better? Honestly, I think they would.

People put up lights because they want to spread joy, cheer, or the Christmas spirit. There’s just something inside us that wants to brighten someone else’s day, and lights are the way to do that. We do it with flashlights, candles, and even bonfires. There’s a power in light that even the smallest flame can give direction and hope.

I think deep down our soul knows that we’re meant to walk in light, not darkness. We stumble more in the dark. We lose our way in the dark. But when there’s light, we rest easy because at least we can see where to go. I believe our hearts innately know the call of the Light of the World. We’re drawn to it, and maybe the Christmas lights remind us of that.

Today’s the day we stop hiding the light God’s put inside us. We uncover it, stop letting the world smother it, and actually let it shine brightly. So if you really want to live a legacy of faith, reflect the light of Jesus Christ and point people toward Him, then you can’t keep it hidden any longer. Let it shine like the Christmas displays that people travel miles to see.

Remember, you get one life. One light. One legacy. So what are you going to do with it? Will you let it shine like a city set on a hill to be seen or will you keep it covered?

It’s time to shine your light so it can be reflected in others. If you want to learn how, visit lighthouselegacies.com. Also, listen and subscribe to the Living Your Legacy Podcast.
