Enough is Enough #384

We all have that family member who is late to family gatherings. They always arrive 30 minutes late. As the host, you know they will be there; you just don’t know when, so you adapt. I guess you trust them enough to know they will come.

This theme comes up all the time with friends, too. When I was a freshman, a junior would pick me up for school every day. He always ran late, and I trusted him enough that he would be there. But eventually I found another ride to school.

This idea of trust is rooted in us from an early age and is everywhere every day. So then why is it so hard to practice? Maybe we’ve been hurt or let down too much to fully trust anyone or anything. Or maybe we fear letting others down, so we keep them just far enough.

Truth is, trusting God can be hard, too. We say that we do, but when things get hard, we doubt. When things don’t happen when we want them to, we get frustrated. Maybe we’re afraid to totally give our worries and anxieties completely over to Him because we don’t know what’s next. The sad part is that when we’re always orchestrating our own lives and going our own direction, we are actually heading in the opposite way of what God planned.

Listen, I struggle with this as much as anyone. Truthfully, I’ve probably made trusting God harder than it needs to be. Harder than what He’s requiring. But what if we simplify it and make a conscious attempt to trust God 1% more in the next issue, next moment, or next bill, rather than worrying. What if we can trust God enough to let go of the things we’re holding onto that are crippling us? If you can start your day by trusting God enough, you’ll find you trust Him more throughout the day.

Now, I am not trying to minimize God at all, and I’m certainly not saying you should do nothing for the rest of your life while waiting for food to be on your table. But I do believe that if we are to trust God in all things, we can trust Him first in the little things. When you trust God enough, you will be okay with His timing instead of trying to rush it yourself. You’ll be left with a peace that you can’t explain because you’re content with the results.

So start small by trusting Him enough to get you through the morning. Trust God enough more tomorrow than you did today. For Heaven’s sake, trust Him enough to know that He loves you enough that He’ll protect you. He’ll give you strength to keep going when you’re weak. He’ll relieve the pain you're enduring. Trust Him enough that He will listen to you when you’re hurting. Trust God enough to believe that He wants you to prosper and is preparing you for what’s next.

All that He is asking of you is to trust Him enough. Will you?
