A Sign? #339

Have you ever heard, “Times have changed, people have changed, or back in my day?” Everyone says these phrases, regardless of the generation. But has things or people really changed that much? I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure that I have the same questions about life and the same need for answers as my great grandfather had. I’m also pretty sure that my wife’s maternal instincts are similar to her grandmas. We may have more gadgets than they did, but the comparisons, and the questions are similar.

It’s like human beings need proof before believing anything. Remember in 1945 we needed the newspaper or the radio to say that the war was over. In 1969, television gave us a picture that we had landed on the moon, so it must be true. Just last weekend, my upset grandson wasn’t satisfied until hotdogs were on his plate. He needed a sign or proof that he could eat.

My point is, that people have been wanting to see signs or wonders for thousands of years. In the gospels alone, Jesus was asked for a sign from: Herod, Pharisees, Sadducees, scribes, disciples, “others and they.” People even started to follow Jesus from town to town or believe in Him because they saw a Him heal the sick. Now, they had proof.

I think we all ask the Lord for signs. Well, I know I do. I have spent years pleading with Him for an answer, a sign, a direction, anything on what He wants me to do next. I literally wanted to see a sign, just like those Israelites. I’ve even cried out to God by saying, “Lord, I’ve been knocking on the door, please open it. I’ve been seeking your direction and I’ve been waiting for an answer.”  But instead, He gave me the answer that I wasn’t prepared to hear by asking me and you a question.

It is; “Do you think you’re the only one looking for a sign? I’m looking for one right now from you.” Wow! Is that even possible, is God really flipping the script? The answer is yes He is. So if God is asking you to move out of your comfort zone as a sign that you truly trust Him, then move. Or, if He is knocking on your door waiting for you to open it, then open it. Let those settle because the answer you’re waiting for is on the other side of the door.

It’s time to stop running from Him by making excuses and start running to Him because you may be exactly what He needs to remedy someone’s situation. It’s time to stop asking Him to open only the doors that you want opened and trust that He’ll open the right one in due time. He knows what’s stirring in your heart, He put it there. He just needs you to draw it out by drawing closer to Him. So trust that He’s ahead of you and knows what you need to start living the legacy you were meant to live.
